Celebrating 250 Years of America
As we gather this Fourth of July, our skies will be filled with fireworks, our tables with family, and our hearts with gratitude. This year feels especially meaningful as we celebrate 250 years of our nation's story—a story marked by courage, sacrifice, hope, and the enduring pursuit of freedom.
Freedom has never been free.
Generations before us fought, served, prayed, sacrificed, and even gave their lives so that future generations could experience the blessings we often take for granted. We honor those men and women today, not only with words but by remembering the values they fought to preserve.
As Christians, however, we also recognize another freedom—one that no government can give and no earthly power can take away.
Jesus Christ offers us freedom from sin, guilt, shame, and eternal separation from God. Long before we ever waved an American flag, Christ carried the cross so that we could become children of God.
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." — John 8:36 (ESV)
Our country desperately needs that kind of freedom today.
We live in a culture where marriages are struggling, families are divided, and many people feel lost, anxious, and alone. The answer is not simply found in politics or policies. Real change begins in our homes and in our hearts.
God designed marriage to reflect His covenant love—faithful, sacrificial, forgiving, and enduring. Strong marriages become the foundation for strong families. Strong families build healthy communities. Healthy communities strengthen a nation.
That doesn't mean every family looks perfect.
Some of us celebrate today as single parents.
Some are widowed.
Some are divorced.
Some are praying for children who have wandered from the Lord.
Some are missing loved ones around the picnic table this year.
Wherever you find yourself today, know this: God's promises remain faithful.
He is still the Father to the fatherless.
He is still close to the brokenhearted.
He is still writing beautiful stories from broken chapters.
As a single mom, I understand that family may not always look the way we once imagined. Yet I have discovered that God's faithfulness has never depended on my circumstances. He continues to provide, guide, comfort, and strengthen me every single day.
That is freedom.
Freedom to forgive.
Freedom to hope again.
Freedom to trust God with tomorrow.
Freedom to raise our children according to His Word, even when the world chooses a different path.
As America celebrates 250 years, my prayer is not only that we remain a nation that values liberty, but that we become a people who seek God first.
Imagine the difference if every husband loved his wife as Christ loved the church.
If every wife encouraged her husband with grace.
If every parent pointed their children toward Jesus.
If every home became a place of prayer.
If every believer lived boldly for Christ instead of blending into the culture.
Revival doesn't begin in Washington.
It begins in living rooms.
It begins around dinner tables.
It begins with parents reading Scripture to their children.
It begins with forgiveness.
It begins on our knees before God.
As we celebrate fireworks and freedom this Independence Day, may we remember both the sacrifices that secured our nation's liberty and the Savior who secured our eternal freedom.
May we never take either for granted.
