"Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." — Psalm 127:1
Being a Christian single mom is one of the greatest callings and one of the hardest journeys I have ever walked. It is a road filled with prayers whispered through tears, difficult decisions made alone, and countless moments where I have had to choose faith over fear.
The world tells us to fight harder, speak louder, and protect ourselves at all costs. But God calls us to something much greater. He calls us to stand firm in truth while remaining clothed in grace.
Standing up for your children is not a lack of faith. It is part of faithful parenting.
Protecting the Children God Entrusted to Us
God entrusted our children to us long before any court document was ever written. As parents, we are called to protect, teach, encourage, discipline, and guide them according to His Word.
Proverbs 22:6 reminds us:
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Sometimes protecting our children means having difficult conversations. Sometimes it means documenting the truth. Sometimes it means advocating for their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Standing up for what is right is not revenge.
It is stewardship.
Our goal should never be to destroy another parent. Our goal should always be to seek what honors God and what truly serves the best interests of our children.
When Truth Is Twisted
One of the most heartbreaking realities in today's world is seeing truth become blurred.
Scripture warns us that this would happen.
People sometimes take verses out of context, twisting God's Word to support their own desires, opinions, or agendas. Instead of allowing Scripture to transform their hearts, they reshape Scripture to justify their actions.
The Apostle Peter warned:
"They distort the Scriptures, to their own destruction." (2 Peter 3:16)
God's Word was never meant to become a weapon used to manipulate others.
It was given to heal, convict, restore, and point us to Jesus Christ.
As Christian parents, we must know Scripture for ourselves so we can recognize when it is being misused.
Truth never contradicts God's character.
Truth always reflects His holiness, justice, mercy, and love.
God's Design for Communication
Communication is one of God's greatest gifts within marriage and family.
James 1:19 teaches:
"Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger."
Ephesians 4:29 tells us:
"Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up."
Healthy communication listens.
Healthy communication seeks peace.
Healthy communication values truth over winning.
When communication breaks down, families suffer.
Children suffer.
Trust suffers.
Relationships slowly erode.
Even after divorce, Christian parents should strive—as much as it depends on them—to communicate honestly, respectfully, and with the child's well-being at the center (Romans 12:18).
God's Heart for Marriage
Marriage was never intended to be a temporary agreement.
It was created by God as a covenant reflecting Christ's love for His church.
Genesis tells us:
"The two shall become one flesh." (Genesis 2:24)
Jesus reaffirmed this truth:
"What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." (Matthew 19:6)
The prophet Malachi speaks plainly:
"For I hate divorce," says the Lord... (Malachi 2:16)
This verse is often misunderstood.
God's hatred is not aimed at people who have experienced divorce.
His heart grieves because divorce tears apart what He lovingly joined together.
It divides what was designed to be united.
It separates a husband and wife who once promised lifelong faithfulness.
It often places children in the middle of broken relationships, divided homes, painful misunderstandings, and difficult decisions.
God hates the destruction that sin brings.
Yet He never stops loving the people caught in that brokenness.
One Family... Now Divided
Divorce affects more than two adults.
It changes the rhythm of an entire family.
Decisions that once belonged to one household are now divided.
Holidays change.
Schedules change.
Communication changes.
Children often feel caught between two worlds they never asked to live in.
That is why Christian parents should continually ask:
"Will this decision honor Christ?"
"Will this bring peace or more division?"
"Will this help my child know the love of God?"
Even when parents disagree, children should never become the battleground.
They should remain the blessing.
Living in the Days Scripture Foretold
The Apostle Paul warned Timothy about the character of many people in the last days:
"People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unforgiving, slanderous... lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God..." (2 Timothy 3:1–5)
When I read these verses today, I cannot help but see how relevant they remain.
We live in a culture where pride often replaces humility.
Winning can become more important than reconciliation.
Speaking over one another becomes easier than listening.
Division is celebrated while unity is neglected.
Families are fractured.
Children carry burdens they were never meant to bear.
As followers of Christ, we are called to live differently.
Not because we are perfect.
But because Christ is.
We All Fall Short
There is one truth that levels every one of us.
Romans 3:23 says:
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Every parent has made mistakes.
Every marriage has experienced struggles.
Every person has needed forgiveness.
None of us stands before God because of our own righteousness.
We stand because of His grace.
Romans 5:8 reminds us:
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
That is agape love.
A love that gives without demanding.
A love that forgives.
A love that pursues us when we wander.
A love that never gives up.
As Christian single moms, we are invited to reflect that same love—not by ignoring wrongdoing, but by refusing to let bitterness define us.
Standing Firm With Grace
If you are walking through custody battles, misunderstandings, painful conversations, or seasons where you feel unseen, remember this:
God sees.
God knows.
God hears every prayer whispered over your children.
Stand for truth.
Stand for righteousness.
Stand for your children's well-being.
But do it with the character of Christ.
Pray for wisdom before every decision.
Speak truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).
Leave vengeance in God's hands (Romans 12:19).
Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, because He is the only One who can truly heal what sin has broken.
One day every earthly court will fade away.
Every opinion will pass.
Every accusation will be silenced.
But the Word of God will remain forever.
So let your home—even if it is a home led by one faithful parent—be built upon Christ.
Because a house centered on Jesus will always stand stronger than a house built on pride, anger, or fear.
A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Give strength to every Christian single mom who feels weary today. Help us raise our children in Your truth and love. Guard our hearts from bitterness, fill our mouths with grace, and give us wisdom in every decision. Heal broken families where healing is possible, protect our children, and help us trust You with what we cannot control. Teach us to reflect the love of Christ in every season as we wait for the day when You make all things new.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
