Walking with God Like Enoch: A Christian Single Mom's Journey of Healing, Faith, and New Beginnings

Walking with God Like Enoch: A Christian Single Mom's Journey of Healing, Faith, and New Beginnings

Today at church, we talked about Enoch and what it truly means to walk with God.

Enoch's story is short, but incredibly powerful. The Bible tells us that Enoch "walked faithfully with God" (Genesis 5:24). He found favor with God because of his faith and obedience. In a world that was moving further away from God, Enoch chose to stay close to Him.

As I reflected on his life, I couldn't help but think about my own journey.

As Christians, we sometimes try to get as close to the edge of the cliff as possible without falling. We ask ourselves, "How much of the world can I hold onto and still follow Christ?" We want one foot in faith and one foot in the world.

But Enoch didn't live that way.

He didn't ask how close he could get to the edge.

He chose to walk with God.

As a Christian single mom, this message spoke directly to my heart.

As I enter this new chapter of my life, I sometimes feel like I don't recognize the woman I am becoming. Divorce changed me. Single motherhood changed me. The responsibilities of caregiving, rebuilding my life, and learning to trust God in ways I never had to before have all shaped who I am today.

There have been moments of grief for the life I thought I would have. I once believed that the spiritual oneness I desired would be found in marriage. I thought that walking alongside a spouse who shared my faith would fulfill that longing for spiritual companionship.

But through heartbreak, healing, and starting over, God has shown me something beautiful.

My deepest relationship is found in Him.

And that is okay.

I have discovered that God is enough.

He provides when I don't know where the answers will come from.

He protects when I feel vulnerable.

He forgives when I fall short.

He loves me with an unconditional love that never changes.

I realize now that God has been molding me into someone I don't fully recognize yet—not because I am losing who I was, but because I am becoming who He created me to be.

This transformation isn't always comfortable.

It requires surrender.

It requires obedience.

It requires faith.

As a single mom, there are days filled with uncertainty, exhaustion, and wondering if I am enough. There are moments when I feel unseen and overwhelmed by the responsibilities I carry.

Yet through every challenge, God has remained faithful.

He has carried me through seasons I never thought I would survive.

He has been present in the heartbreak.

He has been faithful in the waiting.

He has been loving in my healing.

I also realize that people who don't know Christ may not understand this journey. They may not understand why we choose faith over fear, obedience over compromise, or surrender over control.

And that's okay.

We cannot expect people who have not experienced a relationship with Jesus to understand the peace and security found in walking closely with Him.

Because walking with God changes everything.

Tonight, I attended an evening church service filled with older believers who had spent decades walking faithfully with God. We sang old hymns together, and I realized I knew many of them by heart.

One simple song brought me back to childhood:

"Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so."

There was something comforting about worshiping alongside people who had weathered life's storms and still sang confidently about God's goodness.

Their faith wasn't built on perfect circumstances.

It was built on a faithful Savior.

Walking with God means believing in Him.

It means trusting Him when we cannot see the path ahead.

It means loving Him enough to surrender our own plans.

It means choosing Him daily.

Like Enoch, I want to choose every day to walk with God.

Not perfectly.

But faithfully.

One prayer at a time.

One act of obedience at a time.

One step at a time.

I believe God does not waste our pain.

He uses it.

Perhaps the struggles I've faced through divorce, single motherhood, caregiving, and starting over are all part of a greater purpose.

Maybe God is preparing me to encourage other women who feel broken, overwhelmed, or uncertain about their future.

I don't have all the answers.

But I know this:

God is still working on me.

And if He can bring beauty from brokenness in my life, He can do the same for others.

Today, I choose to walk with God like Enoch did.

Trusting that the God who has carried me this far will continue to guide me through every new beginning.

Because God is not finished with my story yet.

And perhaps, He isn't finished with yours either.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are you walking closely with God, or standing near the edge of compromise?
  • What would it look like for you to choose faith and obedience today?
  • In what areas of your life is God inviting you to trust Him more deeply?

"By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death... For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God." – Hebrews 11:5

May we all strive to be women who walk faithfully with God, trusting Him through every season of life.
