"And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other." — Hebrews 10:24-25
Today, I came across a post from another single mom searching for a Bible study group. As I read her words, my heart immediately understood what she was feeling.
Being a single mom can be lonely.
Not because we aren't surrounded by people. Not because we don't have family, friends, or a church home. Sometimes the loneliness comes from feeling like nobody truly understands the season we're walking through.
We sit in church surrounded by married couples and complete families. We watch others arrive hand in hand while we carry the diaper bag, the purse, the snacks, and the weight of responsibility alone. We smile, worship, and serve, but deep down we wonder where we fit.
The truth is that God never intended for us to do life alone.
From the very beginning, God created us for community. He knew we would need encouragement, accountability, friendship, and support. As single moms, we especially need other women who understand the challenges we face.
Women who understand what it's like to make every decision alone.
Women who understand the exhaustion of parenting without a spouse.
Women who understand the financial struggles, the custody schedules, the worries, and the prayers whispered late at night after the children are asleep.
There is something powerful about sitting across from another woman who simply says, "Me too."
I've often wanted to join Bible studies and women's groups, but life doesn't always make it easy. Sometimes there isn't enough money. Sometimes childcare isn't available. Sometimes our children need us. Sometimes we're simply exhausted from carrying so much.
But even when those obstacles exist, the need for fellowship remains.
God designed us to encourage one another, pray for one another, and remind one another of His faithfulness. We need women who can point us back to Christ when we're discouraged and celebrate with us when God answers our prayers.
If you're a single mom reading this today and feeling alone, know this: you are not the only one.
There are other women walking a similar road. There are other moms praying the same prayers. There are other women who understand the unique challenges and blessings of raising children while trusting God to fill the spaces where a spouse is absent.
Keep seeking community.
Keep showing up.
Keep reaching out.
And if all you can do today is send a message, comment on a post, or have a conversation with another mom after church, that's a wonderful place to start.
God often uses simple connections to remind us that we are seen, known, and loved.
We may be single moms, but we were never meant to walk this journey alone.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for creating us for community. Help us find godly friendships and meaningful fellowship with other women who will encourage us in our faith. When we feel alone, remind us that You are always with us and that You often meet our needs through the people You place in our lives. Help us build one another up and walk together as sisters in Christ. Amen.
