When God Becomes Your Strength: Starting Over as a Single Mom After Abandonment

When God Becomes Your Strength: Starting Over as a Single Mom After Abandonment

There’s nothing that shakes your world quite like the day your spouse walks away, leaving you behind to pick up the broken pieces—not just of your heart, but of your family, your finances, and your future.

As a Christian single mom, I never thought I’d be here—starting over with no financial support, three boys to raise, and a broken dream that once promised “forever.” But here I am. And maybe you are too. Maybe you’re reading this because you’re searching for something—hope, direction, or just someone who understands. I want you to know this: you’re not alone, and your story is not over.

Rising from the Ashes with Purpose

I’ve cried myself to sleep, worried about bills, questioned my worth, and wondered how I could ever be both mother and father to my boys. But through it all, I’ve clung to God’s promises. I’ve learned that being abandoned doesn’t mean being defeated. It means it’s time to rebuild—not just your life, but your identity in Christ.

I’m rebuilding by starting a business from scratch. I’m job hunting with urgency, willing to work 24/7 if that’s what it takes—reselling online, applying to in-home caregiving jobs, and using every God-given skill I’ve been blessed with. I’m chasing flexible work that fits around my boys’ custody schedule and their emotional needs.

I’m not doing it all perfectly—but I’m doing it faithfully.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” – Proverbs 31:25

This verse isn’t just pretty words—it’s my armor. It’s how I face the impossible days.

Providing Like a Proverbs 31 Woman in Modern Times

As a low-income single mom, I know what it’s like to stretch a dollar, to budget meals with EBT, and ask God to fill in the gaps I cannot. But being a provider isn’t just about money. The Bible calls us to provide emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically for our children too.

So I wake up early to pray. I take my boys on nature walks and teach them about God’s creation. I remind them that even if their earthly father isn’t present, their Heavenly Father will never leave them.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19

Every job I apply for, every product I list online, every sleepless night—it’s all part of building a future that honors God and gives my children hope.

Encouragement for the Single Mom Who’s in the Fire

If you’re in the middle of your own storm, I want to speak directly to your heart:

  • You are capable, even when you feel crushed.

  • God sees your tears, and He counts every one.

  • Your brokenness is not the end—it’s the beginning of a new, bold chapter.

  • You don’t need to be perfect to be powerful.

You’re allowed to start small. You're allowed to dream big. You’re allowed to cry and still be strong. And most of all—you are loved deeply by the God who created you to rise.

Don’t wait for the perfect conditions to begin. Start where you are. Use what you have. Trust that God is writing a better story than the one that broke you.

You were made for more than survival—you were made to thrive.

With love,
Kerri Anderson ❤️
