When Life Changes Faster Than Your Plans

When Life Changes Faster Than Your Plans

Three months ago, I thought I had a plan.

I had goals written down, schedules mapped out, business dreams waiting to grow, and a vision for what I thought life would look like. Then life happened.

As single moms, we often become experts at adapting. We don't always get the luxury of focusing on one thing at a time. Instead, we're balancing family, work, finances, caregiving, home responsibilities, personal growth, and whatever unexpected challenge decides to show up next.

Over the last few months, I've learned that sometimes growth doesn't look like success on paper.

Sometimes growth looks like:

  • Showing up when you're exhausted.
  • Taking care of family when no one sees the sacrifice.
  • Organizing one drawer instead of an entire house.
  • Listing one item instead of fifty.
  • Paying one bill at a time.
  • Choosing faith over fear again and again.

There were days when I felt like I wasn't moving forward at all.

The business wasn't growing as quickly as I hoped.

The bank account wasn't where I wanted it to be.

The to-do list kept getting longer.

Life felt overwhelming.

But then I realized something important:

God never asked me to carry tomorrow's burden today.

He only asked me to be faithful with what is in front of me right now.

The truth is, many of us spend so much time looking at how far we still have to go that we forget to celebrate how far we've already come.

Maybe you haven't built the business yet.

Maybe you haven't bought the house.

Maybe you're still driving the old car.

Maybe you're rebuilding after divorce, loss, disappointment, or financial hardship.

But look at you.

You're still here.

You're still trying.

You're still believing.

You're still showing your children what perseverance looks like.

That matters.

More than you know.

As single moms, we often carry guilt for what we haven't accomplished.

But today I want to encourage you to focus on what you have accomplished.

You got up.

You kept going.

You loved your children.

You paid the bills you could.

You prayed when you didn't have answers.

You trusted God even when the path wasn't clear.

That is strength.

That is courage.

That is success.

The last three months may not have looked the way I planned, but they have reminded me of something I never want to forget:

God does some of His greatest work in seasons that look ordinary.

While we are waiting, He is preparing.

While we are working, He is guiding.

While we are struggling, He is strengthening.

And one day, we'll look back and realize that what felt like slow progress was actually God building a stronger foundation.

So if you're a single mom reading this today, don't quit.

Don't compare your journey to someone else's highlight reel.

Keep taking the next step.

Keep decluttering.

Keep building.

Keep healing.

Keep dreaming.

Most importantly, keep trusting God.

Your story isn't over yet.

Scripture for Today

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

— Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Reflection Question

What is one small victory God has helped you accomplish this season that you haven't stopped to celebrate?

You are stronger than you think, braver than you feel, and more capable than you know. Keep going, Mama. God is not finished writing your story.
