There are days when the numbers simply don't add up.
The bills pile up. The grocery budget gets stretched beyond what seems possible. Unexpected expenses appear at the worst times. The stress of trying to provide for our children while carrying the weight of single motherhood can feel overwhelming.
Whether you receive child support, are waiting for it, or have never been able to depend on it, the reality is that many single mothers know what it feels like to lie awake at night wondering, "How am I going to make this work?"
Being poor isn't just about lacking money. It is the emotional burden of constantly making difficult choices. It is deciding which bill can wait another week. It is saying no to things your children would enjoy because there simply isn't room in the budget. It is carrying responsibilities that were never meant for one person alone.
Yet even in the middle of uncertainty, we have hope.
God never promised us a life free from hardship. But He did promise that He would never leave us or forsake us. He promised to provide for our needs.
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:19
Notice that Scripture says needs, not necessarily all of our wants, plans, or timelines. Sometimes God's provision looks different than we expected. It may come through a kind friend, an unexpected opportunity, a church family, a temporary job, wisdom to stretch what we have, or simply the strength to keep going another day.
God sees every sacrifice you make.
He sees the early mornings and late nights. He sees the tears you cry in private after your children go to sleep. He sees the prayers whispered over unpaid bills and empty bank accounts. He sees your determination to create a safe, loving home despite difficult circumstances.
Most importantly, He sees the incredible work you are doing as a mother.
Our children will only be little for a short season. Childhood passes quickly. While providing financially is important, our presence matters too. The hugs, bedtime stories, prayers before school, conversations in the car, and moments spent simply being together are investments that cannot be measured in dollars.
Time is one of the greatest gifts God gives us.
As mothers, we cannot do everything. We cannot be everywhere. We cannot meet every expectation placed upon us by society or even by ourselves. But we can ask God to help us use our limited time wisely—to love our children well, to teach them about faith, resilience, kindness, and perseverance.
Being a good mother is not determined by the size of your paycheck.
Your worth is not found in your bank balance.
Your children do not need a perfect mom with unlimited resources. They need a mother who loves them, prays for them, shows up for them, and points them toward the God who never fails.
If today you are discouraged because finances are tight, remember this:
You are not failing.
You are not forgotten.
You are not alone.
God has carried countless mothers through impossible situations, and He will continue to walk beside you through yours. Take the next step in front of you. Trust Him with today's needs. Ask for help when you need it. Rest when you can. Keep praying even when you don't see immediate answers.
The same God who feeds the birds of the air and clothes the flowers of the field knows exactly what your family needs.
Hold on to hope.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
And remember that the love, faith, and presence you pour into your children every day are treasures that will last far beyond this difficult season.
Mama, you may feel poor in earthly resources, but in Christ, you are richly loved, deeply seen, and never walking this journey alone.

Heavenly Father, for every single mother struggling today, provide peace in the uncertainty and strength for the journey ahead. Remind us that You are our provider and our refuge. Help us trust You with our needs and use our time wisely as we raise the precious children You have entrusted to us. Fill our homes with Your presence, our hearts with hope, and our minds with Your promises. In Jesus' name, Amen.
